LEGENDS DAY A BIG HIT

 LEGENDS DAY

The 2019 Legends Day event honoring Bentley Warren, Ed West and the late Ollie Silva was the earliest sell-out of any event ever run at the museum. Banners featuring each of the drivers were hung from the museum’s ceiling and became a permanent part of the museum.

Wes Pettengill and Dick Batchelder stood in for Silva. The event was emceed by John Spence and Dick Berggren.

The audience was a whose-who of supermodified racing and included driving champions Chris Perley, Jon McKennedy and Paul Richardson. Engine builder Phil Miller was joined by crew chief Vic Miller and car owners Ed Perkins, Jim Timmons, Ed Shea, Red MacDonald, and Skip Matczak. Past and present ISMA presidents Doc Hathaway and Howie Lane were joined by drivers Jim Martel, Bill Fiske and Steve Newman.

There was a lot of laughter but some quiet moments as the audience remembered Russ Conway, Ken Smith and Charlie Elliott who were major players in NESMRA’s long supermodified run.
