PETE HAMILTON HELMET AND UNIFORM

Massachusetts-based driver Pete Hamilton won races big and small in New England before moving on to NASCAR’s big league. Driving for Richard Petty, he scored an upset win in the 1970 Daytona 500 and then won both Talladega races in the same year. From there he went to NASCAR’s newly formed All American Series for Camaros, Mustangs and the like where he was one of the series’ biggest winners.  A large mural that pictures Hamilton’s accomplishments has been on the museum wall from day one. Now, his widow Sue has contributed Pete’s driving uniform and the helmet he wore in the last race in which he competed. Both are on display for you to see. Museum volunteer Leo Staller holds the helmet and uniform.
