BIG WIN FOR NEW ENGLAND’S JOEY LOGANO

New England driver Joey Logano won the first Busch Lite Clash held at the Coliseum in Los Angeles on February 6, 2022.

The race was held on a very tight newly constructed quarter-mile asphalt track on hallowed grounds that had previously hosted championship-level games in many national sports. Although there had previously been auto races at the Coliseum, none were on the scale of the Clash.

Logano’s win was the first using NASCAR’s Next Gen race car which is the most sophisticated race car in NASCAR history. Off the truck, Logano’s car was among the slowest of those who practiced. But when it came time to race, with Logano’s feedback his team made the right adjustments and Logano won his heat which gave him a starting position of 4th in the 150 lap main event.

When the green flag dropped for the main, it was clear that Logano would be a contender.

He executed daring passes, found holes in traffic barely big enough to fit into and successfully held off every challenge presented by other drivers.

The Middletown, Connecticut driver’s career has been highlighted with wins in the sport’s biggest events. Those wins include the Daytona 500, last year’s victory on the dirt at Bristol and now the win at the Coliseum in the first competitive event for NASCAR’s new Next Gen race car. He is the only New England driver to win the championship in NASCAR’s highest level Cup series.
