FRED DESARRO TROPHIES DONATED

We thank Anthony Morrone for his donation of two Fred Desarro trophies. DeSarro was a standout in the golden age of modified racing in New England. He won the 1970 NASCAR Modified National Championship for Sonny Koszela in the “Woodchopper” Special #15. In 1971 he teamed up with Lenny Boehler and the “Old Blue” #3 and in 1972 captured the inaugural Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway. He went on to win the 1972 modified championship at Stafford and five modified championships at Thompson Speedway. He was critically injured during a practice crash at Thompson on October 8, 1978 and succumbed to his injuries on November 1, 1978.

The trophy on the right is from a 1978 modified victory at Seekonk Speedway and the trophy on the left is from a 1974 Thompson Speedway triumph. The car in the background is the 1980 Chevette Modified from the Lenny Boehler team which was driven at the time by the late great hall of famer Ron Bouchard of Fitchburg, MA.

When you support the New England Racing Museum you're supporting the preservation of historically significant regional artifacts and making sure the story of New England motor racing's past is not forgotten.
